What is BAD PAINTERS CLUB?

It’s a set of cards for creatives that want to break free of their own perfectionism. Each card has a unique prompt for a painting that will push you outside of your comfort-zone.

How did BAD PAINTERS CLUB start?

I came across squeegee art on social media and wanted to try it for myself. I struggled with it at first and got frustrated when I wasn’t immediately “good” at it. It was an eye opening experience at how much my own perfectionism controls my creative process. Squeegee art then became a fun way to get comfortable with “failing”.

Why did you name it BAD PAINTERS CLUB?

“Bad” is a super subjective way to describe work. My message is to reclaim the word “Bad” and spin it to focus on creating work you enjoy, regardless if you are successful at it.

How long did it take you to make BAD PAINTERS CLUB?

In the spirit of fighting perfectionism, I completed this project in less than 1 day (not including the creation of the paintings).

Creative Process

I started with a Canson pad, cheap acrylic paint, and a squeegee/wedge. I kept creating every day, exploring new methods, techniques, and color blending.

I also brainstormed what prompts would lead to the most discovery without directly saying “draw a cat, cloud, etc”. These prompts are meant to move the user outside of their comfort zone. I scanned in every single sheet I created, no matter if I liked it or not.

Scans

Below are just a few select scans out of 500+ sheets I created. I painted on both black and white card-stock paper.
